vinoPilot

The apps

Each one does one job and installs on its own with one command, from a checksummed release, then updates itself. Pick the ones you want. They work on Fedora Atomic (Bazzite, Silverblue, Kinoite, Bluefin) and openSUSE Aeon too: see distros.

vinoWhisper

Live captions and voice typing

Replaces Live Captions and voice typing

Captions for any audio or your mic, in an overlay or the terminal. Hold Meta+H and talk to type into any app, with optional cleanup that drops the ums and the “scratch that”s. Saved sessions get a summary written on the NPU. English, French, German and Spanish, with translation to English.

  • ~1.5s behind live audio
  • Summaries on the NPU
  • Python · MIT
Install
curl -fsSL https://github.com/karanshukla/vinoWhisper/releases/latest/download/install.sh | bash

Then vinowhisper-setup --gui for the overlay, tray and settings window. Updates from the About page.

vinoAuthFace

Unlock with your face

Replaces Windows Hello face

Look at your IR camera to unlock the lock screen, sudo and password prompts on GNOME, KDE, COSMIC, Sway and Hyprland, and the KDE login screen if you opt in. A new settings window walks you through enrolment. No daemon and no system packages, so it installs on Bazzite, Bluefin, Silverblue and Kinoite as easily as anywhere else.

  • ~2s to unlock
  • IR camera only, for security
  • Rust · MIT
Install
curl -fsSL https://github.com/karanshukla/vinoAuthFace/releases/latest/download/install.sh | sudo bash

Add | sudo bash -s -- --with-settings for the settings window. Updates from the tray.

vinoOpenEffects

Look better on video calls

Replaces Windows Studio Effects

Background blur or replace, Studio Light, Center Stage framing (for one face or a group) and gesture reactions, set from an app with a live preview. Shows up as a PipeWire camera in Zoom, Meet, OBS or your browser.

  • 1.2–4.9ms per model on the NPU
  • Rust · GPL-3.0
Install
curl -fsSL https://github.com/karanshukla/vinoOpenEffects/releases/latest/download/install.sh | bash

No root: it installs into ~/.local. Updates from the app’s menu.

vinoPop

AI actions on any text you select

Replaces Click to Do and clipboard history

Highlight text anywhere and a toolbar of buttons that fit it pops up: translate, summarize, rewrite or explain it with a local AI, have vinoSpeak read it aloud, run a command, open a link. Plus clipboard history (Super+Shift+V), snippets and copy-text-from-screen (Shift+Super+O).

  • Gemma 4 running locally
  • KDE, GNOME, sway, Hyprland and COSMIC
  • Python · MIT
Install
curl -fsSL https://github.com/karanshukla/vinoPop/releases/latest/download/get.sh | bash

Add | bash -s -- --with-ai for the offline AI and OCR. Updates from Settings.

vinoSpeak

Natural-sounding text-to-speech

Replaces Windows natural voices

Turn any text into lifelike speech with the Kokoro voice model: 41 voices in seven languages. Play it aloud or save a WAV, from a file, a pipe, a PDF or Word document found through vinoSearch, or a vinoWhisper session. A new window finds a file and reads it to you. Long text starts speaking in about 1.5 seconds on the NPU.

  • ~160 MB model
  • CLI, Python API and a window
  • Python · MIT
Install
curl -fsSL https://github.com/karanshukla/vinoSpeak/releases/latest/download/install.sh | bash

Add | bash -s -- --gui for the window. Or uv tool install vinospeak.

vinoSearch New

Find files by what they're about

Replaces Windows semantic search

Search by meaning, not filenames. Type “dog watching the sunset” and find IMG_2041.jpg. Works on notes, code, PDFs, Office documents, photos, the text in screenshots and scans, and vinoWhisper sessions. Search from KRunner, GNOME Shell, a launcher like fuzzel or rofi on Sway, Hyprland and COSMIC, or its own results window with photo thumbnails.

  • 26ms per warm search
  • Indexes at 3% of one CPU core
  • Rust · MIT
Install
curl -fsSL https://github.com/karanshukla/vinoSearch/releases/latest/download/install.sh | bash -s -- --index ~/Documents

No sudo. It fetches the model and registers with KRunner or GNOME. Updates from the About page.

vinoWatch

See what your NPU is doing

Replaces Task Manager's NPU view

A tray icon showing NPU load, plus the CPU and memory each AI app is using, with a warning when RAM runs low. If the NPU driver gets stuck, it can check and reset it without a reboot. Works on KDE, GNOME, COSMIC, XFCE, Cinnamon, MATE, LXQt, Budgie and Waybar.

  • CPU and RAM per app, NPU load
  • Stuck-driver check in ~0.3s
  • Rust · MIT
Install
curl -fsSL https://github.com/karanshukla/vinoWatch/releases/latest/download/install.sh | sh

x86_64 and ARM. On GNOME, add the AppIndicator extension. Updates from the tray.

ovfetch

For developers

The plumbing behind the apps

Finds the OpenVINO or ONNX Runtime build that fits your NPU and driver, checks its hash against independent sources, and installs it. ovfetch npu install adds the NPU compiler most distros leave out, into your home directory with no root, which is what lets the apps run on Bazzite and Silverblue. Can compile newer runtimes from pinned recipes. Scriptable with resolve --json.

  • Installs OpenVINO in 17s
  • NPU compiler with no root
  • Rust · MIT
Install
cargo install ovfetch --locked

Or grab the static binary from the latest release.
